Waymo robotaxis stall during power outage in San Francisco, USA
On December 20, 2025, in San Francisco, USA, @SF_shame shared a video showing three Waymo autonomous vehicles blocking traffic at a busy intersection. In the video, the robotaxis are seen stalled and occupying both lanes as a citywide power outage disabled traffic signals, triggering widespread congestion during the evening rush hour. The immobile vehicles contributed to gridlock as traffic backed up around the intersection. Waymo later suspended operations that night after reports that more than 1,500 of its vehicles had halted at unsignaled intersections across the city, leaving passengers stranded and worsening traffic conditions.
