Rupert Harvie, the senior master of the Hampshire Hunt, delivered his annual Boxing Day meet speech, addressing concerns about what he describes as political pressure on the countryside and long‑standing rural traditions. Harvie has been part of the Boxing Day meet for more than 35 years, calling the event and the lifestyle surrounding it his life’s work.

Despite the 2004 hunting ban, Harvie has continued to lead the hunt within the law, maintaining the tradition in its modern, legal form. His commitment to the practice spans generations — his eldest son, Jeremy Harvie, now hunts with the Mid Devon Hunt on Dartmoor, continuing the family’s involvement in the sport.
