VAN, TÜRKİYE - DEC. 30: Akdamar Island near the southern shores of Lake Van has attracted numerous visitors following recent snowfall that blanketed the historic site in eastern Türkiye.
The island, located within the borders of Gevas district in Van province, turned white after two days of precipitation, creating picturesque winter scenery against the backdrop of Lake Van's blue waters.
Domestic and foreign tourists, along with photography enthusiasts, traveled approximately half an hour by boat from piers in Edremit and Gevas districts to reach the snow-covered island.
Visitors toured the island and its historic church, capturing photographs of the scenic winter landscape.
The island's main attraction is Akdamar Church, a medieval Armenian place of worship built between 915 and 921 A.D. by architect Bishop Manuel under the direction of King Gagik I Artsruni.
The church holds a significant place in East-West Christian art, featuring some of the most important adornments and comprehensive wall reliefs of its period. It was added to UNESCO's Tentative List of World Heritage on April 13, 2015.
