Thai troops build Trump-style wall from shipping containers along territory reclaimed from Cambodia
Thai troops have built a Trump-style wall along disputed territory reclaimed in border clashes with Cambodia.
Soldiers from the Burapha Task Force set up the barricade to seal off the frontier in Sa Kaeo province on December 30.
They placed 60 shipping containers that formed a fence along the border line at Ban Nong Chan village - similar to US President Donald Trump's hallmark project to block illegal crossings along the US-Mexico border.
They then planted a Thai flag on top of the wall to mark it as sovereign territory. Bunkers were also constructed inside the village to reinforce military presence.
Thailand claims the area has been home to illegal settlements since the 1970s during the civil war and Khmer Rouge genocide. They allowed them to remain as a good will gesture.
But army generals evicted them following the July 24 attacks in which rockets fired by Cambodia killed at least 14 civilians.
The wall came as a ceasefire was signed on December 27, ending weeks of conflict that left at least 26 Thai soldiers dead and one Thai civilian injured.
In Cambodia, the number of military fatalities is believed to be much higher, though regime chiefs have not revealed the actual figure.
At least 600,000 people have been displaced on both sides of the border.
Defence ministers from both nations signed the agreement at a border checkpoint. Among the conditions stipulated was the repatriation of 18 Cambodian soldiers being held by Thailand since July.
The second truce follows the collapse of an earlier flimsy peace pact brokered by US President Donald Trump in July, in a bid for a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
Thai and Cambodian diplomats have travelled to China's Yunnan province over the weekend for trilateral talks to 'consolidate' the ceasefire.
