Aerial shots of cityscape, traffic Storyline China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) set a new single-day record for visitors on Thursday, the first day of the year 2026, as reported by the SAR's Public Security Police Force (CPSP) on Friday. Statistics from the CPSP showed that Thursday recorded 866,000 entries and exits, with tourists accounting for 49.6 percent, totaling 188,000 -- the highest number on the first day of the New Year day in history. The Hengqin Port in neighboring Guangdong Province also set a new record for the total number of entries and exits in a single day, to the tune of 147,000. Hengqin is an island in Zhuhai, a prefecture-level city and Special Economic Zone in Guangdong Province.
