UNCAPTIONED: 'QAnon Shaman' Breaks With Trump and Launches Arizona Governor Bid
‘QAnon Shaman’ Breaks With Trump and Launches Arizona Governor Bid. Jacob Angeli-Chansley, widely known as the “QAnon Shaman” from the January 6 Capitol riots, said he has turned against Donald Trump and will run for governor of Arizona as an independent. Angeli-Chansley, now 38 and preferring the name Jake Angeli, became one of the most recognisable figures of the Capitol attack after appearing shirtless, horned and face-painted among the rioters. He was sentenced to 41 months in prison — one of the harshest penalties linked to the riot — served 27 months, and was later pardoned by Trump after the president returned to office. Now, Angeli said he plans to challenge the political system from outside the two-party structure, announcing his intention to run for Arizona governor in November. In interviews, he accused the current Trump administration of being “a corrupt disaster,” citing its handling of Israel and the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Angeli also criticised the recent removal of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, claiming Trump had used the military to commit what he described as the “armed robbery of a nation.” Once hailed by conspiracy supporters as a symbol of resistance, Angeli now argues that Americans are being misled, saying the country is governed by deception rather than accountability. During his 2021 sentencing, Angeli expressed remorse for his actions on January 6 and sought to distance himself from the “QAnon Shaman” label — a break that has now extended to Trump himself.
