US: Protesters Fill Lower Manhattan Streets In Anti-ICE March
New York, United States - January 08, 2026 Video filmed by X user John DeSio shows a group of New Yorkers marching through Lower Manhattan on the morning of January 8, 2026, during a protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The footage captures dozens of demonstrators crossing a wide intersection near Foley Square and 26 Federal Plaza, where federal immigration courts and Department of Homeland Security offices are located. Protesters carry signs reading “OFE,” “DEPORTATION IS A CRIME,” and other messages condemning ICE actions. The crowd includes people of different ages, with some participants using crutches. Marchers move purposefully through the street under clear winter daylight, with historic buildings and modern high-rises visible in the background, along with American flags. The scene appears calm and organized, with pedestrians crossing and no visible police confrontation in the video. The march appears to be heading toward or forming near federal buildings in the Civic Center area. The demonstration was part of ongoing protests in New York City following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent during an immigration operation in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. Activists organized emergency rallies demanding accountability, an end to aggressive ICE tactics, and reforms to immigration enforcement. Protests continued into January 8, with hundreds gathering in Foley Square before marching toward locations including One World Trade Center, where DHS Secretary Kristi Noem held a news conference, and later returning to 26 Federal Plaza.
