Exclusive- Ospreys caught on camera battling over fish in viral West Seattle clip
A walk through West Seattle turned into an unexpected wildlife encounter for Rozalyn, who captured striking footage of ospreys fighting over a fish. The video, posted on TikTok under the username rozz_bee, has drawn more than 314,000 views.
The birds — Pandion haliaetus, a fish‑eating species known for their specialised hunting abilities — can be seen grappling mid‑air as they compete for the catch. Ospreys are expert predators, equipped with reversible outer toes, spiny foot pads for gripping slippery prey, and the ability to close their nostrils when diving feet‑first into the water.
Rozalyn said she noticed the commotion while out walking and quickly realised she was witnessing a rare moment of aerial competition. Viewers praised the clip for its clarity and timing, calling it a “National Geographic moment” unfolding above a neighbourhood shoreline.
