Israel: Police Seize 152 Flares Intended for Tel Aviv Football Derby at Ben Gurion Airport
Israel - January 14, 2026 Detectives from Unit 747 of the Ben Gurion Airport police district seized 152 flares suspected of being intended for use during the Tel Aviv football derby scheduled for later the same day. The flares were discovered in the possession of a suspect, a man in his 20s from central Israel, who arrived in Israel on a flight from Milan. He was detained upon arrival and taken in for questioning. Police stated that the seizure was part of ongoing efforts to prevent violence and the use of prohibited items at sporting events. The investigation is ongoing.
