Deir ez-Zur, Syria - January 18, 2026 Tribal groups in the Syrian region of Deir ez-Zor have taken control from the Kurdish leadership in Al-Bukamal, east of Deir ez-Zor town, local residents said on Saturday. The Syrian army said it had complete military control of the town of Deir Hafer after the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) pulled out from the town early on Saturday.
