Cities on the east coast of the US are bracing themselves for up to 60 centimetres of snow as a major winter storm approaches. 

Winds up to 50 miles per hour are forecast for several days and all non-essential travel is restricted in New York City from 6 am Monday (February 1).

New Jersey Governor has also declared a state of emergency with all public transport suspended.
