Footage has emerged from China of a fire at a scrapyard reportedly containing more than 6,000 scrapped vehicles.

The video, filmed in Haikou, Hainan Province on March 2, shows the whole scrapyard being swallowed by the blaze, as a huge plume of smoke rises into the sky.

According to local reports, more than 40 fire engines and 230 firefighters were sent to tackle the flames, working for seven hours before finally getting it under control.

No one was injured.
