An astonishing video has emerged from China showing vehicles falling down a riverbank when the ground they were parked on gave way.

In the clip, which was filmed on July 19 in Shaanxi Province, a 20-metre section of riverbank suddenly gives way and eight parked vehicles slide down the muddy embankment towards the river.

One minibus was left teetering precariously on the edge of the riverbank.

No casualties were reported as all the vehicles were empty when the riverbank collapsed, according to local media.

The collapse was caused by heavy rainfall in recent days, according to reports.

Amateur video footage has captured the moment a section of a river levee in northwest China's Shaanxi Province suddenly collapsed on Wednesday, sending seven vehicles careering down the embankment and leaving one minibus teetering precariously over the edge.

The astonishing accident happened at around 11:30 on a river levee of the Baota District in Yan'an City. A witness said the collapsed section spanned about 20 meters long and three meters wide.

No casualties were reported as the parked vehicles were empty and the surrounding area deserted when the incident occurred.

Eight vehicles were damaged to varying degrees, including the seven which were instantly hurled into the dried-up watercourse and the one left hanging on the edge of the river levee.

The collapse has been attributed to continuous rainfall over the past two days which significantly loosened the earth.

Local authorities have cordoned off the accident site and nearby lanes, and have transferred all vehicles parked along the river levee to safe locations. In addition, related rescue and repair work to the collapsed river levee is underway, while a crane was dispatched to retrieve the fallen vehicles.
