This is the astonishing moment a typhoon struck a fairground - sending a ferris wheel’s gondolas spinning upside down.

Typhoon Lan wreak devastation with 100mph winds when it struck the southern coast of Japan yesterday (Mon) morning.

The fairground in Aichi Prefecture felt the force of the storm when winds send the brightly coloured cars spinning round and round.

Local resident Shinji Ruru, 20, recorded the scene from his second storey apartment next to the fair.

He said: ‘’The cars were all jumbled around spinning in the air. This was dangerous and I’m glad nobody was riding it.

‘’They were rotating upside down like this for a few minutes. It’s lucky that none of them flew off.’’

More than 200,000 people have been evacuated since the storm struck. A further 2.2 million homes under advisory to prepare for evacuation.
