Footage of a tourists' zodiac getting partially stuck in an ice flow.

The video, captured off the coast of Paulet Island in the Antartica, shows the speedboat struggling to move amid ice floes.

After a while, the captain manages to steer away from the floating ice.

The filmer later wrote online:

''We became 'mildly' stuck in an ice flow as we were cruising in the Weddell Sea.''

''We really appreciated how quickly the ice could close in and trap a fast and nimble zodiac,'' he added.

Whilst on an Antarctica Expedition in December 2016 we became 'mildly' stuck in an ice flow as we were cruising in the Weddell Sea in Antarctica. The water current is quite strong which pushes the ice flows along and they 'bump' into each other they cause ice jams . speed I was told is about 10 to 20 knots. The bigger tabular ice bergs are almost stationary which aids in the jumble of ice. I have further video (not posted yet) of the speed of the ice and water current.

Day 14 – December 29th
Antarctic Peninsula: Paulet Island & Brown Bluff
0800 GPS position: 63°36.3’ S / 056°03.2’ W Weather: 3°C, cloudy, fog, snow; wind: SE 2
M/V Ortelius pushed her way as close to Paulet island as the Captain felt appropriate for the conditions and once we realized that reaching the landing site was impossible, we launched zodiacs and enjoyed a zodiac cruise amongst the fast moving ice of the Weddell sea. We all had a fantastic time and really appreciated how quickly the ice could close in and trap a fast and nimble zodiac let alone an old wooden sailing ship of the 17th century.
