Crete cruise turns orange after Mediterranean is covered in Sahara dust

Buy video

A tourist on a Mediterranean cruise off the Greek island of Crete has filmed the eerie moment the skies turned orange because of dust from the Sahara whipped up by winds.

The video dates from March 23, when the island itself was covered in a marmalade plume. In the video, filmer Craig Lock captures the deserted outside deck of the cruise ship and the incredibly low visibility.

Lock wrote on social media: "Sahara Desert kicking up some sand during my cruise."
