A solar highway opened in eastern China's Shandong Province at the end of last year.

In the video, filmed in Jinan City on December 28, several vehicles drive along the solar highway on the first day for a test.

People stand on both sides of the 0.6-mile-long road to witness the moment.

The expressway was made of three layers: transparent concrete, photovoltaic panels and insulation from top to the bottom.

It can be used to power street lights, melt the snow in winter and eventually supply power for electric vehicles to be charged.

However, the cost of building a solar highway is still much higher than a regular one.
