This is the moment the head of a military equipment company showed off the capabilities of the firm's bulletproof vests by taking a shot from a Kalashnikov AKM rifle and smiling.

Vyacheslav Nalyvaiko, head of Ukrainian Armor, stood in a snow-covered field and let a marksman shoot rounds at him from about 10 metres (33 feet) away.

Mr Nalyvaiko, who is in his mid-50s, then pulled the protective plate from the vest and showed off the mark made by the shot from the high-powered rifle.

"If you make bulletproof vests you have to be sure you're doing it properly," he said

Despite the cold, the grey-haired and bearded businessman wore just a white shirt and black trousers under the bulletproof vest for the demonstration.

Mr Nalyvaiko said that the vest's ballistic plate was made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) instead of steel, providing an extra level of protection.

The material is designed to absorb the majority of the bullet's kinetic energy, enabling the vest's owner stay on their feet and avoid being hurt by the force of the shot.
