Super long Hummingbird tongue close up slow motion 240fps
Hummingbirds have to probe deep into flowers to collect the nectar, and use their tongues to help transport it up their long beaks. While it's not appearant in this video, the end of the bird's tongue is actually forked, presumably to help bring the nectar into the tip of the beak. These tiny birds weight less than 1/4 ounce (2.5 - 4.5 grams is typical) but are very aggressive and surprisingly tough. This scene was filmed in Santa Clarita, California with a high speed HD camera resulting in 240 fps slow motion playback (10x slower than real life speed).
