During the first freezes in Fall, water seeping out of plant stems near the ground slowly freezes overnight, resulting in these amazing frozen sculptures, sometimes known as "Ice Flowers". As the morning warms, these delicate creations quickly melt, leaving only a few photos as evidence that they ever existed at all. Here we see one of the flowers being broken apart by a finger, to show its texture and consistency.
