Commuters stuck in transport chaos day after Typhoon Mangkhut ravages Hong Kong
Commuters in Hong Kong faced hours-long commutes on Monday, September 16, after main transportation routes were disrupted due to Typhoon Mangkhut the day before.
This video, taken in Tai Wai station in New Territories, located in the city's north, shows crowds of people lined up to take the train.
Several bus routes were suspended due to felled trees blocking roads, and ferry services have also stopped.
The Typhoon Signal 10 was raised just before 10 am on Sunday, along with the Red rainstorm warning. Mangkhut left a path of destruction in the city, downing trees, smashing windows and cutting out power for thousands of households. Wind speeds were a recorded maximum of 180 km/h.
Authorities said Mangkhut is the most severe storm to hit Hong Kong since records began.
Mangkhut also caused widespread damage in several south China cities, including Shenzhen, Guangdong and and Zhuhai.
