Authorities recorded sustained winds reaching a maximum of 250km/h during the powerful Typhoon Mangkhut that hit Hong Kong on September 16, making it the strongest since records began more than 72 years ago.

This video, filmed from the Harbour Grand Kowloon Hotel during the typhoon, shows the storm. The hotel building was severely damaged, with pictures and videos of the shattered glass and belongings flying out the windows quickly going viral on social media.

The Typhoon Signal 10 was raised just before 10 am on Sunday and was in effect for 10 hours, along with the Red rainstorm warning. Mangkhut downed trees, smashed windows and cut power for thousands of households, and commuter chaos ensued the following day due to disruption of main transport routes.

Mangkhut killed more than 64 in the Philippines on its path to Hong Kong, with dozens feared dead as rescuers continue their search for landslide victims.
