Residents of Doha and neighboring suburbs saw heavy rains and lightning on October 15, marking the beginning of Qatar's Wasmi – or rainy – season.

The video, filmed that evening, shows the filmer driving as the storm brewed.

A concurrent dust storm also caused low visibility, forcing motorists to slow down and drive extra carefully.

Authorities say the country's Wasmi season will last 52 days and bring consistent rainfall and temperatures lower than what the desert country is used to seeing.

After suddenly having a large sandstorm in Qatar this evening, on my way home a massive storm with heavy rain, strong winds and lightning started to hit Qatar. There were plastic blocks from construction sites and parts of trees on the road as well as some flooded streets.
