Members of the public intervened and subdued a man outside Stratford station this morning (October 30) after he attacked multiple men with a hammer.

The shocking aftermath was caught on camera by a passerby and shows the man being restrained by numerous commuters as he screams in frustration, yards away from the suspected weapon he used in the attack.

The attacker was said to have attacked a group of men after they refused to give him a cigarette, hitting one in the side of the head and the other in the shoulder.

British Transport Police have since arrested the 26-year-old man from East Ham on suspicion of actual bodily harm, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
