River Teifi in flood near Lampeter

We moved to Wales 2 years ago and loved the house because we have river frontage on the Teifi and resident wildlife including kingfishers and dippers. We have a one room bed and breakfast called Teifi Riverbank and our guests are blown away by the place. They love to sit by the river watching the red kites above and waiting for that special rare moment when the kingfisher appears in a flash of blue. We love to watch the river changing all the time and the levels go up and down really rapidly but we hadn't seen it rise this fast before and as it turned out it was the highest recorded level on the Teifi. Only a few weeks before it was down to a trickle, a mere stream, and you could walk from the bottom of the garden to the opposite side easily - the dog thought it was great fun! There was a frantic rush by the farmer across the river in Cellan to move his sheep to another area but unfortunately that was flooded unexpectedly too and he lost 11 of his flock. The local garage was flooded and the Co-op supermarket was closed for three weeks. Much of south, west and mid Wales was affected and Lampeter was at the top of the amber alert area on the weather forecast - hardly anyone had heard of it until then! A couple of days later it had gone right back down again and you wouldn't have know this had even happened.
