On Sunday December 9, 2018 at approximately 10:00pm Fort Mill Fire Department responded to a reported church on fire in the Town of Fort Mill. The fire was reported in Unity Presbyterian Church at 303 Tom Hall Street. Upon arrival firefighters encountered heavy fire on the 1st and 2nd floors of the church. At one point all firefighters were evacuated from the church due to a roof collpase and flames shooting from the roof. Firefigjters setup multiple tower ladders and poured hundreds of gallons of water from the tower ladders from the outside. Assistance was provided from multiple neighboring fire departments. As of 12:46am firefighters were still on scene battling the fire. Members of the church I spoke with said the church was about 200 years old. Their was a new portion of the church and the old portion of the church. It's unclear in what section the fire started or what section was destroyed. Parishioners told me off camera, this church was on the historic Fort Mill tours that were held on Saturday.
