Stunning aerial footage captured off the coast of St Petersburg, Florida yesterday (Friday) shows a huge school of fish swimming between a group of endangered manatees.

"While I was canoeing, I noticed a large group or mullet passing through the area and there were also a lot of manatees around," said the filmer, Michael McCarthy.

"I launched my drone, which has a zoom lens so I can keep my distance and not spook the wildlife with the drone but still get a close view," he added.

"The mullet were weaving through about 20 manatees that were along the shoreline," McCarthy said.

I knew the school of mullet was large but didn't realize how large until I launched the drone and looked at it from the air. It was about 1/3 of a mile long. The mullet were weaving through about 20 manatees that were along the shoreline.
After the school of mullet passed through, a few of the curious manatees came up to the See Through Canoe to look it over.
Manatees are primarily vegetarians and would not be able to catch a live fish because they aren't fast enough and their mouths are not designed to be able to bite or hold onto a fish.
