A two-year-old deer that fell 30-ft into a farm well was rescued following a marathon operation in South India.

The incident happened on January 12 night in Kumbabatti Puri Sabarakulam near Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district.

In the morning, when the owner of the farm came for usual inspection of crops, he heard a bleating sound emanating from the well.

On taking a closer look, he figured it was a deer that was struggling to stay afloat.

He immediately raised an alarm to seek support of fellow farmers and informed the forest department officials about the animal’s plight.

While waiting for the rescue team, the villagers hoped and prayed that the deer clings onto dear life till help arrives.

The rescue team arrived at short notice and started the operation.

It took them more than an hour to successfully and safely rescue the animal. According to forest officials, the deer had suffered several gashes on its body while being chase by a hunter.
