This is the terrifying moment a man fights off a surprise attack by a wild boar in central India.

The boar brought down the man but ran away as he fought back.

Rajesh Sahu, 43, a resident of Dhamtari in Madhya Pradesh, was on his way home on the afternoon of February 2. As he walked through an area covered with thick bushes, a wild boar attacked him from behind.

As people watched in horror, the ferocious animal tried to bite Sahu repeatedly.

Sahu fell to the ground but tried to roll over to safety and managed to push back the animal.

As onlookers shouted, the boar ran back to the bushes and vanished.

Sahu was taken to a hospital where he was discharged after first aid.

He said: “The boar caught me by surprise and bit me on my hands and legs. I was lucky to survive the attack.”

Officials said the boar attacked two women as well on the same afternoon.

“We will make all attempt to catch the animal,” said SR Nirala, a forest official.
