Pack of Howler Monkeys in the Jungle

A family pack of Howling Monkeys, including a mom and his cub, are seen in the jungle forests of El Peten, in the Mayan Biosphere Reserve. Howler monkeys (genus Alouatta monotypic in subfamily Alouattinae) are among the largest of the New World monkeys. They are famous for their loud howls, which can travel three miles through dense rainforest. These monkeys are native to South and Central American forests. Threats to howler monkeys include human predation, habitat destruction and being captured for pets or zoo animals. Fifteen species are currently recognized. In Guatemala, the species are called , and the common name is Black Howler.
