Over 1,000 cars stranded as fresh landslides hit India's north

Fresh landslides forced the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on May 14. The said highway connects the India's northern state of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The landslide, captured on camera, took place in Digdol area of Ramban district.

Visuals showed small rocks descending down as excavator vehicles cleared the path by removing the fallen rocks.

Meanwhile, the occurrence has left over a 1,000 vehicles stranded.

Reports said 1,500 heavy motor vehicles and at least 200 light motor vehicles have been stranded at different points of the 270 kilometres highway.

Senior Superintendent of Police J S Johar was quoted in the media as saying vehicular movement won't happen from Jammu to Srinagar until the debris are cleared.

The highway had remained partially closed from May 9-11 owing to landslides, allowing one way traffic.
