This is the moment on July 1, 2019 that masked protesters in Hong Kong broke into the parliamentary building, smashing metal shutters and breaking glass.

This extended raw footage shows anti-government protesters in hard hats breaking into the city’s legislature and going on the rampage.

After forcing entry, they then ransacked the main chamber of the Legislative Council, spraying graffiti and damaging property.

A year later to the day, Hong Kong woke up to new national security law.

Dozens of protesters were arrested today (July 1) as hundreds took to the streets in defiance of a new national security law.

Critics say the new law, imposed by China, undermines the "one country, two systems" model.
