Seven Lions eating an African Buffalo

Drought is good for predators – lack of food weakens many of the animals they prey on, making them much easier to catch. In late 2016, Kruger National Park was in serious drought. No rain had fallen for months, and almost all of the green grass had gone, leaving bare ground and water-stressed shrubs. A pride of three Lionesses, one blind in one eye, and four large cubs were on the side of the road in Kruger National Park, South Africa, eating the remains of a drought-weakened African Buffalo that they had caught. This was the same Buffalo that was being guarded by a lone Lioness about two hours earlier. She was almost certainly a member of this pride.
