An American musician was rushed to hospital after a cooking gas cylinder exploded in his room.

Paul Cole, 59, is believed to have left the valve open then tried to light the stove to make a meal in his room in Bangkok, Thailand, last Friday (16/08) morning.

CCTV footage shows the moment the explosion devastated the room - blowing the doors off and smashing the windows.

Police received a report about the blast at the six-storey building in Ratchawithi district of the capital.

Paul, who wasliving on the third floor of the building, suffered several cuts. He was injured in the chest from a flying glass and was rushed to the BNH hospital.

A woman living across the street Warapon Sinsuphan, 48, who was sweeping her front drive at the time was also injured by the glass that flew straight from the American's room towards her.

The American's unlucky neighbor needed 11 stitches for her wound at Phaya Thai 1 hospital.

Apartment owner Areesak Hapolsap, 78, said: "The American has been living here for more than 10 years and was working as a guitarist."

After the investigation Police Captain Sahatchai Montra said: "The tenant could left the gas cylinder valve open as he went out earlier in the day.

"We believe the leakage caused the explosion after he came back and tried to cook."
