An elderly woman miraculously emerged unscathed after a goods train passed over her in south India.

Maanibai Chavan had gone to buy medicine and was returning to her home near Chittapur railway station in Karnataka on September 2.

She decided to take a shortcut and was crossing the tracks when she came before a passing train.

Hard of hearing, she saw the train only when it was about to hit her. Instinctively, she fell on the tracks and lay flat.

A vendor, who works in the vicinity of the station, shot a video filming Maanibai cowering under the trundling train.

Onlookers can be heard screaming at her and asking her to lay still, while eyewitnesses said Maanibai was under the train for nearly three minutes.

After the train passed, Maanibai got back to her feet and went along her away, shaken up badly but with just a few scratches to show for her ordeal.

Onlookers can be heard screaming at her and asking her to lay still.

Eyewitnesses said Maanibai was under the train for for nearly three minutes as the train had several bogies and was going slow.

After the train passed, Maanibai got back to her feet and went along her away, shaken up badly but with just a few scratches to show for her ordeal.

Station Master Santosh Kumara said: “It’s illegal and dangerous to cross the tracks. But people do it everyday. We have informed our superiors about the incident.”
