Lucinda Evans, a South African anti-abuse activist, addresses a huge crowd of people gathered outside the Parliament buildings in Cape Town to protest against the shocking incidence of rape and violence in the country.

She started the non-profit organisation Philisa Abafazi Bethu in 2008 because she was tired of seeing women in her community being the victims of abuse.

Philisa Abafazi Bethu's objectives are to provide a safe space for women and children who are victims of sexual and domestic violence to live freely and without fear, while supporting and educating them about their rights.

On any given day Lucinda can be found rescuing children and women from violent situations. She’s not afraid of getting her hands dirty.
