Spring is here! A lovely pair of Grey Teals feeding with their duckling
Grey Teal (Anas gracilis) are distributed throughout most of Australia, New Zealand and the island of Papua. They are highly adaptable, and occupy a range of habitats – both fresh and saline, temporary and permanent. Grey Teal dabble for small aquatic invertebrates and graze on aquatic vegetation and grass ; they also take some seeds. This ringed pair and their single duckling were feeding in the flooded shallows of Herdsman Lake, west of the city of Perth In Western Australia. The male – slightly darker and larger than the female – was alert, standing guard for much of the time as the female and duckling fed.
