This is the dramatic moment forest department officials, with the help of locals, rescued a massive 10-foot-python in eastern India.

The incident took place in Keshiapata village of Jhargram district, West Bengal on November 5.

Visuals show the snake coiled up, lying near a plantation as villagers surrounded the reptile, then a man uses a stick to prod at it, forcing it to move a little.

Next, a woman uses the tip of her sari to get hold of the snake's tail, however, it manages to evade her grip.

After several tries to get hold of the snake, including one where a man, believed to be a forest department official, let go of its tail, causing chaos as the snake moved away quickly.

Eventually the snake was restrained and using a net placed on the snake's head, an official got hold of the python, while another gripped its tail.

It was then put inside a metal cage and transported to a safe distance.
