One car owner in China learned the hard way that it is not usually a good idea to leave a dog in your car.

At around 5:40pm on 10 December, a man said to be a local shopkeeper, briefly parked his car beside a pond in Xinguang Village, Jinhua, Zhejiang.

As he planned to return almost immediately with a box, he left the engine running and the boot of the car open.

But the dog in the car got excited and knocked the gear stick into drive mode, sending the vehicle into the water.

Fortunately he was able to rescue his dog from the submerged car. It is not known if he was able to salvage the vehicle though.

12月10日傍晚5点40分左右，浙江金华新光村，一辆开着后备箱和天窗的白色越野车缓缓驶入池塘，村民朱玉堂看到了事情的发生经过。

村民朱玉堂说，当时坐在对面石凳上面聊天，看见那个车子没有人开门就启动往池塘里面开，后来赶过去时车已经到池塘里面了。那时候车主端了个箱子跑过来，问他的车怎么了？他跑过来的时候车子已经下去了。

车主贾先生是新光村廿九间里的掌柜，当天离开新光村前，发现自己有东西忘记拿了，便下车去拿。他说，正急着打算离开，后来发现皮夹落掉了，还有一箱货没拿，于是就打开后备箱，想着等一下把货放进去就可以走了。拿完东西出来，离车三十米左右，车上的狗见他过来，便很兴奋地跳了起来，档位也不知道为什么挂进去了。

由于路程比较近，贾先生下车时并未将车子熄火，狗在跳动的时候将车子的档位挂了进去。幸好池塘的水位比较浅，水没有没过整辆车，狗在村民的帮助下被成功救出。

村民朱玉堂说，（边上饭店的）老板和车主就去边上抬了一块竹板过来，我就在边上拿了一根竹竿过来，将竹板搭在车上面。车主就用竹竿当扶手往里面走，在天窗里面将狗救出来了。贾先生说，车子冲下去之后，村民们都来帮忙，把狗救了出来，十分感谢。
