Commuters left stranded after rockslide crushes vehicles on Indian mountain road
A massive boulder broke off a mountainside onto a commuting vehicle on a highway in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand on January 9.
According to reports, the incident took place on the Badrinath National Highway, en route to the village in the state's Tehri district.
Visuals, captured by travellers on the road, show the aftermath of the frightening incident as earth-movers were being used to dig out the crashed cars.
The incident lead to the blocking of the arterial route, disrupting the traffic flow in the region.
According to reports, engineering work being done on the roads had led to instability on the rocky slopes above, causing commuters to abandon their vehicles and flee to avoid the ensuing landslide.
No injuries were reported, however several vehicles were dented and damaged in addition to the one that was crushed outright.
