Storm Dennis aftermath-trains near Bath 15/16 Feb 2020

The video commenced soon after the persistent rain had ceased and the river levels reached their peak on Sunday 16th February 2020. A trip to the local supermarket the following day led us to being distracted by the amount of water accumulated in Newton Meadows with the trains passing through on the embankment. Further along the road, our car journey had to be diverted due to the A431 being closed due to flooding. This particular stretch of road through Swineford village is prone to flooding but the volume of water was quick astonishing. The trip to Longwrll Green had to be via the A4 (with a brief stop to see trains rushing by the newly formed lakes). The River Frome at Keynsham was in full flood and what was once Fry’s Chocolate factory (now retirement homes) can be seen from the moving car with Leynsham Hams under water. I did more filming of trains at Newton Meadows in the afternoon. Amongst the usual Class 800 IETs and Classes 158/165 and 166 there was some freight activity with Class 66s and a Class 70 which added to the interest.
