Storm Christoph brings flooding to a Yorkshire village

Buy video

A main road through a Yorkshire village became flooded earlier this week, when the River Aire burst it's banks near by, when Storm Christoph brought high winds and heavy rain to parts of the UK. Newton Lane which runs between Allerton Bywater in West Yorkshire & Fairburn in North Yorkshire, was submerged under at least 8 feet of water, had to be closed after some motorists became stranded and had to abandon their vehicles. The footage filmed today (Saturday 23rd January) shows sign posts & cars still partially under water, days after the River burst it's banks. The local nature reserve RSPB Fairburn Ings, also had to close, due to footpaths, car park & visitor centre becoming inaccessible.
