In late November (2018), the Moira detention centre for migrants and refugees in the island of Lesbos hosted +7500 applicants for asylum -facilities were designed for just 2500 people. Thousands of these people live in camps around the centre, under improvised tents, suffering low temperatures and rain in poor sanitary conditions, with little poor quality food, and just a few hours of access to water and electricity. Men, women and children live in fear of being sexually attacked, exposed to violence, or deported. Access to legal assistance is rare.
