Refugees are enduring snow and freezing temperatures in tents at a camp in northern Greece as a cold snap hits the country.

Footage shows the poor living conditions of families in Diavata camp, Thessaloniki, after it was blanketed in snow during a recent rash of cold weather.

Dozens of refugees denounced the lack of support in a protest earlier this week in which demonstrators burned tires and blocked a road outside the camp.

The Diavata camp has a capacity of 700 people but is currently hosting 1,400 people. The overcrowding issue forces some refugees to live in containers, agencies reported.

Struggle in snow for the refugees of Diavata in Thessaloniki, where they protested few days ago for lack of heating and food. Children walk barefoot in the snow, improvised huts and people walk in the snow to secure food and wood for the stoves, burning everything available in order to avoid freezing. The current situation in Anagnostopoulou camp at Diavata, and the living conditions are difficult, both in terms of food and heating, and the numbers of people go far beyond the possibilities of the particular structure.
