Officers from the "Garbage Bank" sort plastic waste from the community which will later be recycled into materials that can be reused, Tuesday, May 5, 2020. After being sorted, plastic waste is put into a sack and weighed for later to be used as useful goods.

In addition to recycling plastic waste, this "Garbage Bank" also recycles organic waste into fertilizer plants. Waste in the form of vegetables or garbage from the traditional market is selected and put in a large container that is made in such a way as to be processed into fertilizer.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Waste Bank Association, Saharuddin Ridwan, in an interview said, "The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in Makassar City, especially the garbage bank program, before Covid-19 became epidemic, the activities of waste banks in Makassar were 400 garbage banks. During Covid-19, recycled production begins to decrease.

"In January and February, waste recycling is usually 500 kilograms for a week, now during the pandemic only 1 ton per month," said Saharuddin Ridwan. (*)
