Footage shows an elephant being fixed with a radio collar to track its movement in the south Indian state of Karnataka.

The fitting took place in Virajpet of Kodagu district on May 7.

Forest officials will be able to track the real-time movement and location of elephant herds in Kodagu.

According to local media, the GPS-enabled collars will potentially reduce human-elephant conflict, after damage caused by elephant attacks was being reported.

The video shows, the forest officials trying to fix the radio collar around the pachyderm, while another elephant, a male, stood next to it.

One official was seen patting the elephant, understandably to keep it calm.

According to the reports, the wild elephants who have been captured are being radio-collared to track their whereabouts.

This was done as more and more damages were reported due to elephant attacks.
