Indian Railways are set to deploy 500 train coaches in Delhi and transform them into isolation wards to treat around 8,000 COVID-19 patients.

The makeshift facilities will have almost 3,500 beds in 170 coaches that have been provided by the rail service.

Delhi is one of the worst affected states with the city recording over 87,000 cases and over 2,700 deaths.

Indian Railways deploy 500 railway coaches in Delhi Railway stations which are turned into isolation wards for treatment of around 8,000 coronavirus patients, to augment Delhi’s health infrastructure in view of the rapidly rising cases in the capital.

The 3000-bed facility opened at Anand Vihar railway station to fight COVID-19 in Delhi. Anand Vihar Railways station now becomes another COVID-19 facility with close to 3500 beds in 170 coaches that have been provided by Indian Railways.

Delhi is one of the worst COVID-19-affected states in the country. The city has recorded a total of 87,360 cases of COVID-19. While 27,847 of these are active cases, over 58,348 people have been cured/ discharged so far. 2,742 people have lost their lives to the deadly pandemic so far.
