Adorable footage shows three delighted elephants swimming in the muddy river to cool the afternoon heat in Surin, Thailand.

Bunlue said he was walking by the river with his three elephants when they decided to swim because the weather was reaching 35C.

He said: "They may be feeling hot so when they saw the water, they rushed over to splash around and cool off.''

Surin province in the northeast of Thailand is known for its elephants, where the animals would roam freely through the forests.

Thailand has at least 2,000 wild elephants and a similar number in captivity that are held in sanctuaries, zoos or with private owners who sometimes hire them out for religious festivals and weddings.
