This is the heartwarming moment a kind woman climbs into a canal to rescue a trapped stray dog.

RuRu Lu saw the fearless woman climbing down the ladder in Kaohsiung, Taiwan to reach the trapped dog on August 3.

She said: "There was a dog crying below so we asked for help from those in charge of the area. But the woman did not wait for help and went down herself."

The woman tried to reach the dog but it was out of reach from the banks so she followed it as it drifted with the current.

The local government office sent a response unit to rescue the dogs that were swept away. They are still checking the drain for the dog.

Ruru said: "I was very sad about what happened because I also have a pet dog. If I had seen them early, we would have been able to rescue them immediately."
