A powerful typhoon Haishen (No. 10) is approaching western Japan and the Korean Peninsula, bringing dangerous waves, heavy rainfall, and high winds. The Japanese government urged people to take precautions and called for "the best action to save lives."

Kagoshima Prefecture requested the Self Defense Forces to dispatch troops to evacuate the residents of isolated southern islands on September 4 afternoon. Hundreds of residents have been airlifted by SDF helicopters to Kagoshima city on the nearby main island as a precaution.
